John 19: 1-16a
Jesus Condemned

It was a heavy but important service today as we continued our journey toward the cross. We explored Pilate’s interrogation of Jesus and how his power ultimately stems from God's allowance of free will, highlighting Jesus’ profound silence and truth-speaking in the face of oppressive authority. Ultimately, we considered how the suffering of Christ connects to historical injustices like lynching and calls us to embody prophetic interruption – speaking out against violence and proclaiming a better way rooted in love and faith.

Here are three reflection questions for you to consider this week:

  1. Where do you see systems of power operating today that demand obedience or silence, and how can we find the courage to speak truth into those situations?
  2. The sermon touched on the loaded question, "where are you really from?" How does this question resonate with your own experiences, particularly in a world marked by difference and displacement?
  3. How can we actively embody the “crucified King” – prioritizing love and justice over power and control - in our daily lives and communities?
