Opening Prayer (pdcbwc.org)
ALL: Holy and Living God, Root of our strength, Source of our courage. You have made roads through barren lands to lead us here and drawn rivers of water in the desert places to nurture us. When we are between a rock and a hard place, you tell us it will not be a dead end. No one can take us out of your loving hand. As you have gathered us in generations past, lead and guide us now and in the days to come as we seek your wisdom and your vision for our people. Plant in us renewed and holy boldness to love as Christ loved, to make peace and serve justice with humility and grace. You are our God yesterday, today and forever. Amen.
*Opening Song Together We Serve TFWS 2175
1. Together we serve,
united by love,
inviting God’s world to
the glorious feast.
We work and we pray
through sorrow and joy,
extending your love
to the last
and the least.
2. We seek to become
a beacon of hope,
a lamp for the heart
and a light for the feet.
We learn, year by year,
to let love shine through
until we see Christ
in each person we meet.
3. We welcome the scarred,
the wealthy, the poor,
the busy, the lonely,
and all who need care.
We offer a home
to those who will come,
our hands quick to help,
our hearts ready to dare.
4. Together, by grace,
we witness and work,
remembering Jesus,
in whom we grow strong.
Together we serve
in Spirit and truth,
remembering love is
the strength of our song.

RESPONDING
*Sermon Song How Can We Name a Love UMH 111
1. How can we name a Love
that wakens heart and mind,
indwelling all
we know or think
or do or seek or find?
Within our daily world,
in every human face,
Love’s echoes sound
and God is found,
hid in the commonplace.
2. If we awoke to life
built on a rock of care
that asked no great
reward but firm,
assured, was simply there,
we can, with parents’ names,
describe, and thus adore,
Love unconfined,
a father kind,
a mother strong and sure.
3. When people share a task,
and strength
and skills unite
in projects old
or new, to make
or do with shared delight,
our Friend
and Partner’s will
is better understood,
that all should share,
create, and care,
and know that life is good.
4. So in a hundred names,
each day we
all can meet
a presence, sensed
and shown at work,
at home, or in the street.
Yet every name we see,
shines in a brighter sun:
In Christ alone
is Love full grown
and life and hope begun.

The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

*Offering Response Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow (UMH 94)
*Prayer of Dedication (Thom Shuman)
ALL: If we want to know you, Generous God, we must see you in those all around us. If we want to serve you, we must give up that which is most important to us, even our material resources, so that blessings of hope and life might be offered to the needy, the lonely, the hungry all around us. Receive our gifts, we pray, so that others might be transformed even as we are. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

*Closing Song Love Divine, All Loves Excelling UMH 384
1. Love divine,
all loves excelling,
joy of heaven,
to earth come down;
fix in us thy
humble dwelling;
all thy faithful
mercies crown!
Jesus, thou art
all compassion,
pure, unbounded
love thou art;
visit us with
thy salvation;
enter every
trembling heart.
2. Breathe, O breathe
thy loving Spirit
into every
troubled breast!
Let us all
in thee inherit;
let us find that
second rest.
Take away
our bent to sinning;
Alpha and
Omega be;
end of faith,
as its beginning,
set our hearts
at liberty.
3. Come, Almighty
to deliver,
let us all
thy life receive;
suddenly return
and never,
nevermore thy
temples leave.
Thee we would be
always blessing,
serve thee as
thy hosts above,
pray and praise thee
without ceasing,
glory in thy
perfect love.
4. Finish, then,
thy new creation;
pure and spotless
let us be.
Let us see thy
great salvation
perfectly restored
in thee;
changed from glory
into glory,
till in heaven
we take our place,
till we cast our
crowns before thee,
lost in wonder,
love, and praise.
