LEADER: Choose this day whom you will serve.
ALL: We will serve God, who made us.
LEADER: Choose this day whom you will serve.
ALL: We will serve God, who frees us.
LEADER: Choose this day whom you will serve.
ALL: We will serve God, who calls us to love.
Opening Prayer (Clergy Stuff)
ALL: God of promise, Renew in us each day your covenant with us—that you will be our God and we will be your people. Open our hearts to your call to be your hands and feet in the world, to love, serve, and do justice for the flourishing of all creation. Guide us in all we do and say this day and every day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

LISTENING
Scripture Reading Joshua 24:1-26
[Narrator: Then the people answered,
People: Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods; for it is the Lord our God who brought us and our ancestors up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight. He protected us along all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed; and the Lord drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God.
Narrator: But Joshua said to the people,
Joshua: You cannot serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after having done you good.
Narrator: And the people said to Joshua,
People: No, we will serve the Lord!
Narrator: Then Joshua said to the people,
Joshua: You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord, to serve him.
Narrator: And they said,
People: We are witnesses.
Narrator: He said,
Joshua: Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.
Narrator: The people said to Joshua,
People: The Lord our God we will serve, and him we will obey.
Narrator: So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem. Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a large stone, and set it up there under the oak in the sanctuary of the Lord.
LEADER: This is the word of God for the people of God.
ALL: Thanks be to God.

RESPONDING
*Sermon Song Love Divine, All Loves Excelling UMH 384
1. Love divine,
all loves excelling,
joy of heaven,
to earth come down;
fix in us thy
humble dwelling;
all thy faithful
mercies crown!
Jesus, thou art
all compassion,
pure, unbounded
love thou art;
visit us with
thy salvation;
enter every
trembling heart.
Prayers of the People
Leader: God of mercy and grace,, ALL: we lift our prayers to you.
The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

*Offering Response Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow (UMH 94)
*Prayer of Dedication (Clergy Stuff)
ALL: Holy God, we have chosen this day to serve you, rather than worldly powers and material possessions. We offer now these gifts as a sign of our faithfulness, and ask that you would bless them and use them for the good of all that you have made. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

*Closing Song Stand Up, stand Up for Jesus UMH 514
1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
ye soldiers of the cross;
lift high his royal banner,
it must not suffer loss
From victory unto victory
his army shall he lead,
till every foe is vanquished,
and Christ is Lord indeed.
2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
forth to the mighty conflict,
in this his glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve him
against unnumbered foes;
let courage rise with danger,
and strength to strength oppose.
3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
stand in his strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there.
4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the strife will not be long,
this day the noise of battle,
the next the victor’s song.
To those who vanquish evil
a crown of life shall be;
they with the King of Glory
shall reign eternally.
