Ecclesiastes: Wisdom for Surviving

Throughout this service we acknowledged God’s presence in both joy and sorrow, reflecting on the exhaustion and despair felt in witnessing widespread violence and suffering. Drawing from the wisdom tradition of Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes), we encouraged finding joy in shared meals and connections while cautioning against seeking meaning in a chaotic world, especially amid the divisiveness of constant news consumption.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How can you intentionally cultivate joy and connection in your life this week, especially through shared meals or acts of hospitality?
  2. Where do you find comfort or guidance when faced with overwhelming suffering or despair? How does God’s presence show up in those moments for you?
  3. In what ways has the constant exposure to news or social media affected your sense of peace or community? How might Qoheleth’s wisdom challenge you to engage differently with the world?
