Prelude       The Summons          Rejuvenate

Lighting of the Altar Candles

 Call to Worship  (Clergy Stuff)

LEADER:      We gather in this place to hear God’s word.
ALL:             We are like eager children, ready to learn.
LEADER:      Let us sing and pray and rejoice in God.
ALL:             We come with the enthusiasm of the young.
LEADER:      Welcome in the name of Jesus.
ALL:             Welcome, Jesus, into our midst!

Opening Prayer (Clergy Stuff)

 Holy God,
ALL: You call us into partnership with you, through the Holy Spirit, in carrying the good news of Jesus’ saving love to the ends of the earth. Make us bold to proclaim what you have done for us, and compassionate to all who suffer for your sake. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

*Opening Song         I Was Thee to Hear Your Borning Cry                TFWS 2051

  1. “I was there
    to hear your borning cry,
    I’ll be there when
    you are old.
    I rejoiced the day
    you were baptized,
    to see your life unfold.
  1. I was there
    when you were but a child,
    with a faith to suit you well;
    in a blaze of light
    you wandered off
    to find where demons dwell.
  1. “When you heard
    the wonder of the Word
    I was there to cheer you on;
    you were raised to praise
    the living Lord,
    to whom you now belong.
  1. If you find
    someone to share your time
    and you join
    your hearts as one,
    I’ll be there to make
    your verses rhyme,
    from dusk till rising sun.
  1. “In the middle ages
    of your life,
    not too old, no longer young,
    I’ll be there to guide you
    through the night,
    complete what I’ve begun.
  1. When the evening
    gently closes in
    and you shut your
    weary eyes,
    I’ll be there
    as I have always been
    with just one more surprise.
  1. “I was there
    to hear your borning cry,
    I’ll be there when
    you are old.
    I rejoiced the day
    you were baptized,
    to see your life unfold.”

RESPONDING

*Sermon Song  Blest Be the Tie that Binds   UMH 472

  1. Blest be the tie that binds
    our hearts in Christian love;
    the fellowship
    of kindred minds
    is like to that above.
  1. Before our Father’s throne
    we pour our
    ardent prayers;
    our fears, our hopes,
    our aims are one,
    our comforts and our cares.
  1. We share
    each other’s woes,
    our mutual burdens bear;
    and often for
    each other flows
    the sympathizing tear.
  1. When we asunder part,
    it gives us inward pain;
    but we shall still
    be joined in heart,
    and hope to meet again.

Prayers of the People

God of new life, hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Offertory         Craig Nickerson, Organist

 *Offering Response   Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow   (UMH 94)

 *Prayer of Dedication  (Clergy Stuff)

ALL: Nothing can contain your generosity to us, O God. In joyful gratitude for the overflowing abundance you have given us, we offer to you our whole selves, the work of our hands, and our material resources. Use them for the work of proclaiming your love through actions of justice and equity here and around the world. Amen.

SENDING

 *Closing Song   Lord, Dismiss Us With Your Blessing       UMH 671

  1. Lord, dismiss us
    with thy blessing;
    fill our hearts
    with joy and peace;
    let us each,
    thy love possessing,
    triumph in redeeming grace.
    O refresh us, O refresh us,
    traveling through
    this wilderness.
  1. Thanks we give
    and adoration
    for thy gospel’s
    joyful sound.
    May the fruits of thy salvation
    in our hearts and lives abound;
    ever faithful, ever faithful
    to the truth may we be found.
