 Call to Worship  (Clergy Stuff)

LEADER:      Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors,
ALL:             That the King of glory may come in.
LEADER:       Who is the King of glory?
ALL:             The Lord, strong and mighty in battle.
LEADER:       Who is this King of glory?
ALL:             The Lord of hosts is the King of glory.

Opening Prayer (Clergy Stuff)

Eternal and holy God,
You reign in our hearts and in all the earth, and creation gives testimony to your glory and power. Yet you are a ruler like none we have experienced, and gave all of yourself for the sake of the world. Teach us the kind of sacrificial love that can transform all things, for the sake of Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

*Opening Song         All Glory, Laud, and Honor                  UMH 280

Refrain

All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

  1. Thou art the King
    of Israel,
    thou David’s royal Son,
    who in the Lord’s
    name comest,
    the King and Blessed One.

Refrain

All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

  1. The company of angels
    are praising
    thee on high,
    and we with all creation
    in chorus make reply.

Refrain

All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

  1. The people of the Hebrews
    with palms
    before thee went;
    our prayer and praise
    and anthems
    before thee we present.

Refrain

All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

  1. To thee, before thy passion,
    they sang their
    hymns of praise;
    to thee, now high exalted,
    our melody we raise.

Refrain

All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

  1. Thou didst accept
    their praises;
    accept the prayers we bring;
    who in all good delightest,
    thou good and
    gracious King.

Refrain

All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

RESPONDING

*Sermon Song   In the Cross of Christ I Glory    UMH 295

  1. In the cross of
    Christ I glory,
    towering o’er the
    wrecks of time;
    all the light
    of sacred story
    gathers round
    its head sublime.
  1. When the woes
    of life o’ertake me,
    hopes deceive,
    and fears annoy,
    never shall the
    cross forsake me,
    Lo! it glows
    with peace and joy.
  1. When the sun
    of bliss is beaming
    light and love
    upon my way,
    from the cross
    the radiance streaming
    adds more luster
    to the day.
  1. Bane and blessing,
    pain and pleasure,
    by the cross
    are sanctified;
    peace is there
    that knows no measure,
    joys that through
    all time abide.
  1. In the cross
    of Christ I glory,
    towering o’er the
    wrecks of time;
    all the light
    of sacred story
    gathers round
    its head sublime.

Prayers of the People

God of mercy and grace, we lift our prayers to you.

The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
