 Invitation and Sharing of Peace

Peace be with you. And also with you.

Prelude     The Fear of the Lord        Rejuvenate

 Call to Worship  Breakthrough Series)

LEADER:      Wisdom cries out in the streets.
ALL:             We hear and struggle to understand.
LEADER:      Come and listen to the words of life and love.
ALL:             We hear and proclaim our faith in the one who brings life.
LEADER:      Let us worship the God of life and wisdom
ALL:             whose words guide our life on the right paths.

Opening Prayer (Breakthrough Series)

ALL: Loving and caring God, we come this morning seeking wisdom and guidance for our lives. Open us to your words of life and love and truth. May we proclaim with our tongues what we know in our hearts. In this time of worship, help us more fully understand what it means to truly be a disciple, a follower of the way of Jesus, a follower of the path of wisdom. May the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable to you, our rock and our redeemer. Amen.

*Opening Song         We’ll Understand It Better By and By       UMH 525

  1. We are tossed and driven
    on the restless sea of time;
    somber skies and
    howling tempests
    oft succeed a bright sunshine;
    in that land of perfect day,
    when the mists have
    rolled away,
    we will understand
    it better by and by.

Refrain

By and by,
when the morning comes,
when the saints
of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it
better by and by. (by and by)

  1. We are often destitute
    of the things
    that life demands,
    want of food
    and want of shelter,
    thirsty hills and barren lands;
    we are trusting
    in the Lord,
    and according
    to God’s word,
    we will understand
    it better by and by.

Refrain

By and by,
when the morning comes,
when the saints
of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it
better by and by. (by and by)

  1. Trials dark
    on every hand,
    and we cannot understand
    all the ways
    that God would lead us
    to that blessed promised land;
    but he guides us
    with his eye,
    and we’ll follow
    till we die,
    for we’ll understand
    it better by and by.

Refrain

By and by,
when the morning comes,
when the saints
of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it
better by and by. (by and by)

  1. Temptations, hidden snares
    often take us unawares,
    and our hearts
    are made to bleed
    for a thoughtless
    word or deed;
    and we wonder
    why the test
    when we try
    to do our best,
    but we’ll understand
    it better by and by.

Refrain

By and by,
when the morning comes,
when the saints
of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it
better by and by. (by and by)

RESPONDING

*Sermon Song    Be Thou My Vision    UMH 451

  1. Be thou my vision,
    O Lord of my heart;
    naught be all else to me,
    save that thou art.
    Thou my best thought,
    by day or by night,
    waking or sleeping,
    thy presence my light.
  1. Be thou my wisdom,
    and thou my true word;
    I ever with thee
    and thou with me, Lord;
    thou and thou only,
    first in my heart,
    great God of heaven,
    my treasure thou art.
  1. Great God of heaven,
    my victory won,
    may I reach heaven’s joys,
    O bright heaven’s Sun!
    Heart of my own heart,
    whatever befall,
    still be my vision,
    O Ruler of all.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

...

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord; God of power and might.
Heaven and heart are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!
Blest is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!

All: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!

...

The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Sung: Amen, Amen, Amen.
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!
