 Call to Worship  (Clergy Stuff)

LEADER:       Our God calls us from our daily tasks.
ALL:              We come before God with joy.
LEADER:       Let us honor this sacred time together.
ALL:              We are listening, O God. Speak to us.
LEADER:       Let us answer God’s call to be community.
ALL:              We are ready, O God. Nourish us for the work of the Spirit.

Opening Prayer (Clergy Stuff)

 ALL: God of mystery, You come to us in obvious and subtle ways, calling us into your work of love and service to you and our neighbors near and far. Help us to recognize you in all those we encounter, that we might know you are near, guiding and equipping us for the work ahead. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

*Opening Song         Make Us One                   TFWS 2224

Make us one, Lord,
make us one;
Holy Spirit, make us one.
Let your love flow
so the world will know
we are one in you.

RESPONDING

*Sermon Song  Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service     UMH 581

1.  Lord, whose love
through humble service
bore the weight
of human need,
who upon the cross,
forsaken,
offered mercy’s
perfect deed:
we, your servants,
bring the worship
not of voice alone,
but heart,
consecrating
to your purpose
every gift
that you impart.

2. Still your children
wander homeless;
still the hungry
cry for bread;
still the captives
long for freedom;
still in grief
we mourn our dead.
As, O Lord,
your deep compassion
healed the sick
and freed the soul,
use the love
your Spirit kindles
still to save
and make us whole.

3. As we worship,
grant us vision,
till your love’s
revealing light
in its height
and depth and greatness
dawns upon
our quickened sight,
making known
the needs and burdens
your compassion
bids us bear,
stirring us to
tireless striving
your abundant
life to share.

4. Called by worship
to your service,
forth in your
dear name we go
to the child,
the youth, the aged,
love in living
deeds to show;
hope and health,
good will and comfort,
counsel, aid,
and peace we give,
that your servants,
Lord, in freedom
may your mercy
know, and live.

Prayers of the People

God of new life, hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Offertory                       Craig Nickerson, Organist

 *Offering Response   Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow   (UMH 94)

 *Prayer of Dedication  (Clergy Stuff)

ALL: Holy God, Jesus was clear that we cannot serve both you and wealth. Accept these gifts out of our financial possessions as a sign that you are our God and our gifts are to be used in service to you and our neighbor. Bless them for this holy work in Jesus’ name. Amen.

SENDING

 *Closing Song I Am Thine, O Lord UMH 419

1. I am thine, O Lord,
I have heard thy voice,
and it told thy
love to me;
but I long to rise
in the arms of faith
and be closer
drawn to thee.

Refrain

Draw me nearer, (nearer, nearer,)
nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where
thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious
bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now
to thy service, Lord,
by the power of
grace divine;
let my soul look up
with a steadfast hope,
and my will be
lost in thine.

Refrain

Draw me nearer, (nearer, nearer,)
nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where
thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious
bleeding side.

3. O the pure delight
of a single hour
that before thy
throne I spend,
when I kneel in prayer,
and with thee, my God,
I commune as
friend with friend!

Refrain

Draw me nearer, (nearer, nearer,)
nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where
thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious
bleeding side.

4. There are depths of love
that I cannot know
till I cross
the narrow sea;
there are heights of joy
that I may not reach
till I rest in
peace with thee.

Refrain

Draw me nearer, (nearer, nearer,)
nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where
thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious
bleeding side.
